What is QR Code ?

QR Code is called a Quick Response code because when it is scanned, the QR code allows the user to access information quickly no matter how much they contain – It is as simple as it looks.

Numeric is belongs to decimal digits from 0 to 9. Numeric mode of data is the most effective storage, with up to 7,089 characters that can be used. Alphanumeric is for decimal digitals from 0 to 9, and uppercase letters from A to Z, and symbols like %, *, $, /, +, –, ., and : as well as a space, with the availability of 4,296 characters.

Model 1 QR code is an older version of the specification. It is visually similar to the widely seen model 2 codes but lacks alignment patterns. Differences are in the bottom right corner, and the midsections of the bottom and right edges are additional functional regions.

Different types of QR code

  1. QR code – This is the first & original version of the QR code, Denso Wave created this version in the 1990s. It is very easy to identify, it has three finder patterns in the top–left, bottom–left, and top–right corners.
  2. Aztec code – This is so similar to a QR code, the Aztec code, by Welch Allyn developed Aztec code, and has only one finder pattern, right in the middle.
  3. Maxi code – United States postal service users of this type of QR code. It looks like the Aztec code and has a finder pattern in the middle, but it uses a honeycomb pattern instead of squares.
  4. PDF417 – Ynjiun Wang of Symbol Technologies invented this version in 1991, and named PDF417 QR code. It is similar to a mix between a barcode and a QR code and is easily recognizable by its rectangular shape.
  5. Semacode – A Software Company named Semacode developed this version, and it is a data matrix that is very similar to an ordinary QR code but doesn’t have recognizable finder patterns.

A QR code may contain unique data of any product like ProductID, ProductURL, etc. which contain full details like product description, product price, and payment details.

Coronavirus tracing using QR codes
The coronavirus epidemic has supercharged the use of QR codes. For example, Visitors in the UK hospitals or other venues such as cafés and bars are requested to scan a QR code on arrival through NHS Covid-19 tracing app. It helps to trace and avoid to spread of the virus.
